R.A.I.L.S. — Civic Monitoring of Railway Infrastructure
Analyzing public data to track European and national railway investments through OpenCoesione.
Explore the ProjectProject Overview
The project aims to implement a New Station Portal through the technological equipment of stations located within the Convergence Objective Regions (Campania, Calabria, Puglia and Sicily). The intervention provides intelligent Wi-Fi connectivity and an intuitive interface to station users (travelers and citizens), enabling the delivery of innovative services by stakeholders. Wi-life allows to:
- monitor passenger flows within stations
- support intermodal transport through dedicated Web Apps
- provide in-station orientation services
- increase the range of services offered to station users.

Civic Monitoring
Understanding how public funds are used is a fundamental right. Our mission is to make railway infrastructure investments transparent and accessible.
What is Civic Monitoring?
Civic monitoring is the practice of citizens actively engaging with public data to oversee how funds are allocated and spent. It promotes accountability, transparency, and informed participation in public decision-making.
Why Transparency Matters
Public data transparency ensures that citizens can verify how European and national funds are being used. By making data accessible, we foster trust in institutions and enable evidence-based civic discourse.
How R.A.I.L.S. Uses OpenCoesione
R.A.I.L.S. leverages the OpenCoesione platform — Italy's open data portal for cohesion policy — to extract, analyze, and visualize data about railway infrastructure investments, tracking progress from allocation to completion.
